Pop diva Britney Spears is the latest American megastar on offer to international buyers courtesy of Summit Entertainment which has boarded her first feature film. The as yet untitled film is being financed by her record label Jive Records and is set to start shooting next month.

Summit Entertainment had no comment on the picture but buyers at this week's American Film Market in Santa Monica were abuzz with the news that the global recording star's picture was on sale. Tamra Davis is directing the film about three childhood friends who get together to travel across the country and end up in a musical talent contest in Los Angeles.

The film is expected to feature song performances by Spears and will be released to coincide with the release of Spears' third album towards the end of the year. Jive is co-producing the film with Filmco and reportedly negotiating a US studio sale itself.

Davis' last film Skipped Parts starred Jennifer Jason Leigh and Drew Barrymore. Her other credits include Billy Madison, Half Baked, Guncrazy, CB4 and Best Men.

Spears has sold more than 30 million copies of her two albums Oops -I Did It Again and her debut Baby One More Time.

The film joins Summit's impressive line-up which includes Christopher Nolan's remake of the Norwegian film Insomnia to which Al Pacino has now committed to star (possibly alongside Hilary Swank), and Mandalay Pictures' comedy Servicing Sara starring Matthew Perry and Elizabeth Hurley.
