Exit Through the Gift Shop, the directorial debut by celebrated street artist Banksy will have its world premiere as the surprise film in Sundance’s Spotlight section on January 24.

Billed as the world’s first street art disaster movie, Exit Through the Gift Shop is the story of a French shop keeper and amateur film-maker who attempts to locate and contact Banksy only to have his camera turned on him by the artist.

This 87 minutes feature debut will show exclusive footage of the anonymous graffitist as well as many other of the most “infamous” graffiti artists. Banksy, whose work can be seen from on walls across the world, had so far resisted all attempts to be captured on film.

John Cooper, director of the Sundance Film Festival, said: “Exit Through the Gift Shop is a warped hybrid of reality and self -induced fiction while at the same time a totally entertaining experience.”

“It’s the story of how one man set out to film the un-filmable, and failed,” said Banksy.
