Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North America rights to Oren Moverman’s The Messenger starring Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson.

The film premiered at Sundance and charts the budding friendship between two Army servicemen charged with informing next of kin of the death of their loved ones.

The Messenger won the Berlin Silver Bear award earlier this year for best screenplay for Moverman and co-writer Alessandro Camon as well as the Peace Film Award.

Oscilloscope will release in theatres in November in tandem with awards campaigns for Foster, Harrelson, Samantha Morton, Moverman and Camon.

Lawrence Inglee, Mark Gordon and Zach Miller produced and Omnilab Media, Sherezade Films and BZ Entertainment financed.

“Oren has created a film that is so sincere that I believe war protesters, as well as those who are in the military, will identify with it,” Oscilloscope Laboratories head Adam Yauch said. “Both Woody and Ben are incredible, giving performances that blew me away.”
