EXCLUSIVE: Hong Kong-based Tee is a well-known figure in the Asian film industry.

Paris-based film financier Backup Media Hong Kong has hired producer Lorna Tee as its representative in Asian markets.

“Lorna has an intimate knowledge of producing and film finance in Asia and also knows Europe through her work with festivals such as Berlinale and Rotterdam. She will act as the perfect go-between for us in Asia which is a very closed market,” commented Backup co-chief David Atlan-Jackson.

“I’m very happy to be part of the Backup family to work alongside exciting filmmakers from all over the world to make amazing films for audiences everywhere,” said Tee.

Chinese Malaysian Lee is a well-known figure in the Asian film industry.

Starting out producing theatre and independent film in Kuala Lumpur, Tee moved to Hong Kong a decade ago, working for Andy Lau’s Focus Films, Bill Kong and Avex’s Irresistible Films.

She currently works with Hong Kong’s October Pictures and manages her own Malaysian production outfit Paperheart.

Tee also sits on the advisory board of Rotterdam’s Cinemart, the Asian Film Awards and New Action Express Film Fund for Shorts.

Her producer credits include The Beautiful Washing Machine, At The End of Daybreak, and Postcards from the Zoo.
