EXCLUSIVE: German M-Appeal has sold Russian Yury Bykov’s Critics’ Week title The Major to French distributors Zootrope and Greek firm Ama Films for theatrical release.
Bykov’s drama revolves around a police officer who tries to cover up a hit and miss he commits as he rushes to the hospital where his wife is giving birth.
The picture is market screening this evening [May 19] ahead of its Critics’ Week premiere.
The picture is produced by Alexey Uchitel’s Moscow-based Rock Films that also produced Taisia Igumentseva’s Bite the Dust, which premieres in a a special screening in Cannes.
Past acquisitions by Paris-based Zootrope include La Sirga.
