The actress is in talks to join the most high-profile prestige title of the market, which Bloom is selling in Cannes and will star Matthew McConaughey.

Gus Van Sant will direct Sea Of Trees and revealed the casting development at a buyer presentation at the Plage Royal on Thursday afternoon (15).

McConaughey will play a widower who travels to a famous forest in Japan where many go to contemplate life and death.

Reeling with despair following the sudden death of his wife, who had been terminally ill, the man meets another lost soul and ultimately rekindles his desire to live. Ken Watanabe has been linked to the cast.

“It was the best script I have read in the last five years,” said McConaughey, adding later: “It dealt with the spirirual world in the most poetic way I have ever seen done. It was like a whole lot of haikus. I got the chills a few time and that doesen’t usually happen.”

Production has been earmarked for July or August and van Sant said he wanted to shoot in or near the actual Aokigahara site at the base of Mount Fuji known as Suicide Forest or the Sea Of Trees.

Failing that, the shoot will take place in the North-western United States, where the director said the landscape was similar.
