In a major coup for the New York event, Joss Whedon’s highly anticipated summer release will round out festivities on Apr 28. Disney will release the film worldwide on May 4 in what is expected to usher in a massive blockbuster season.

This will be the New York premiere of the Marvel Studios adaptation following the world premiere in Los Angeles on Apr 11.

In a statement festival top brass said they wanted to celebrate everyday heroes such as emergency service and military personnel, some of whom will be invited to the premiere.

Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo star as the superhero team who must defeat the threat posed by Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. Samuel Jackson and Gwyneth Paltrow are among the key cast.

“Showing at Tribeca is both an honour and a double homecoming for me, who grew up in Manhattan, and for the movie, which wrapped production there,” Whedon said. “I’m thoroughly psyched to be closing the festival with our intimate little think-piece.”

Tribeca is set to run from Apr 18-29.
