UTV Motion Pictures and Aamir Khan Productions’ Delhi Belly is receiving a mainstream theatrical release in Hong Kong through the UA Cinemas circuit.

UA Cinemas is working with Hong Kong distributor Sunil T. Datwani’s Cineworld Co to release the film on eight screens from May 10.

“It’s a very proud moment for us to have our film Delhi Belly released in Hong Kong. Hong Kong has a large young local and expat population and Delhi Belly has done superb business in cities like London, Singapore, Dubai, New York, Sydney and Melbourne – we hope it resonates with audience in Hong Kong,” said Amrita Pandey, UTV’s senior vice president, International Distribution and Syndication.

Hong Kong’s Edko Films had a hit last year with 3 Idiots, also produced by Aamir Khan, and also starring the Bollywood icon, which grossed $3m to rank number 14 in Hong Kong’s year-end chart. Edko released the film nearly two years after its Indian release, as it was waiting for it to pass censorship in mainland China.

Directed by Abhinay Deo and starring Imran Khan, Delhi Belly revolves around the antics of three young men who share an apartment. It was a decent hit in India last year despite not featuring the usual marquee names – Imran Khan is an up-and-coming star and the nephew of Aamir Khan.

Kunal Roy Kapur and Vir Das also star in the film, and it’s music, written by Ram Sampath, has won several awards over the past year.
