Japanese studio Toei is ringing up sales on Junji Sakamoto’s A Chorus Of Angels, which has gone to Hong Kong (Golden Scene) and Taiwan (Skydigi).

Toei has also sold the film to Kazakhstan’s Gold Cinema, an unusual deal as Russian distributors usually buy for the Central Asian republic.

Produced to mark Toei’s 60th anniversary, the film stars leading Japanese actress Sayuri Yoshinaga as a teacher on a remote northern Japanese island. Her character returns to the island and her six students more than 20 years after a terrible accident forced her to leave.

The film is based on a story by Kanae Minato, who also wrote Confessions, which was adapted into a huge hit in 2010. Sakamoto has credits including Children Of The Dark and Zatoichi: The Last.
