Tesco-owned TVOD service Blinkbox has inked a deal with Entertainment Film Distributors to host titles including American Hustle, The Butler, Transcendence, Her and August: Osage County.

Douglas Davis, Blinkbox’s director, content acquisition and sales, said of the deal: “The new deal with EFD means we have 100% coverage of major new release movies released in the UK, strengthening our position as the UK’s go to service for those wanting to rent, buy and enjoy the latest movies and TV on multiple devices, without being tied into a subscription or one specific brand of device.”

The service recently added a ‘watch offline’ functionality, meaning customers can download movies and TV shows to iPad and Android tablets to watch on the go, without needing an internet connection.

Blinkbox also recently inked a deal with Channel 4, which includes TV series The Inbetweeners and comedies Peep Show, Miranda and Derek.

In recent months media speculation has been rife that Tesco is looking to sell off the TVOD service, which it acquired three years ago.
