Fox International executives are projecting the company’s aggregated release slate will cross $1bn for the year-to-date today [Apr 12] in what would become the second fastest time in history.

The company set the all-time speed record in January 2010, a freak result driven by the powerhouse performance of Avatar.

This year, multiple Oscar winner Life Of Pi has been the key driver, earning $260m of its $485m overall tally in the first quarter of 2013.

Other notable performers include A Good Day To Die Hard on $235m, DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods on $225m and counting, Lincoln on $82.5m and a combined $110m from the Fox International Productions stable led by Dragonball Z with Toei in Japan and Break Up Man in Germany.

Executives said miscellaneous Fox and Fox Searchlight releases accounted for the $77.5m balance.

This marks the fourth time in the past five years that Fox International has been first to cross the $1bn threshold, the tenth year in a row it has achieved the feat and the 13th time overall.

If Fox International does indeed top $1bn on Friday it will beat by one day the record it set in 1998 [on Apr 13], when another James Cameron film, Titanic, proved to be the box office engine of the year.

Upcoming releases include Blue Sky’s 3D family film Epic; comedy The Internship reuniting Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn; comedy The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy; DreamWorks Animation’s Turbo 3D; The Wolverine 3D; and Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters 3D.
