Media group takes control of film giant’s communications.

StudioCanal

Antoine Banet-Rivet has been appointed head of communications for StudioCanal in another round of changes at the once semi-autonomous film and high-end TV production and distribution arm of Canal+.

He replaces Sophie Kopaczynski who has been appointed EVP, catalogue and brands strategy, reporting to Rodolphe Buet, president of international distribution and marketing at StudioCanal.

Former journalist Banet-Rivet, who joined Canal+ in 2000, is already director of corporate communications for the group, reporting to Laurence Gallot, EVP, communications and partnerships at the Canal+ Group.

Kopaczynski joined Canal+ in 2005 as chief of cabinet to the chairman. In her most recent role, she was director of communications, trade shows and festivals at StudioCanal.

The re-shuffling of the communication department did not come as a surprise.

There have been a number of hirings and firings at Canal+ and its various subsidiaries over the last few months, amid a shake-up by Vincent Bolloréthe billionaire majority shareholder of parent company Vivendi.

The changes in StudioCanal’s communication department follow the departure earlier this month of StudioCanal chairman and CEO Olivier Courson.

He was replaced by former Ubisoft executive Didier Lupfer, who had also just been announced as head of cinema at Canal+ a few days earlier.

Other appointments announced on Wednesday (Oct 28) included the hiring of former Sony Pictures executive Simon Bathe as EVP Digital, also reporting to Buet.
