Korea’s CJ Entertainment has announced a slew of pre-sales for Bong Joon Ho’s post-apocalyptic action thriller Snowpiercer, led by deals to Wild Side Films for France and Bitters End and Kadokawa Shoten for Japan.

The film also sold to CIS (Volga), Latin America (Playarte), Scandinavia (Mislabel); Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Ex-Yugo, Bulgaria (Ablo/Monolith); Malaysia, Philippines (Parkit Films); Greece, India (Tanweer Films); Iceland (Myndform), Baltics (ACME), Turkey (R Film), Vietnam (Megastar Media Company) and Israel (Shani).

CJ has also partnered with Good Universe to co-represent international rights on Snowpiercer for European and Latin American territories.

Produced by Park Chan-wook (Oldboy) and Lee Tae Hun (The Man From Nowhere) and directed by Bong Joon Ho (The Host), Snowpiercer employs a raft of English-speaking stars such as Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt and Octavia Spencer.

The only survivors in a new ice age travel around the globe in a train called the Snowpiercer, powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system has evolved in the train but a revolution soon begins.

The Weinstein Company previously picked up rights to distribute the film in North America, UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

“Snowpiercer has created a new milestone for CJ Entertainment. Director Bong Joon Ho’s unique direction, the film’s highly original and commercial plot, top notch actors and strong global partners such as Good Universe and The Weinstein Company have all contributed in generating strong sales for the movie,” said Jeong Tae-sung, CEO of CJ E&M’s Film Division, which is in charge of the CJ Entertainment.

The film is currently in post-production.
