EXCLUSIVE: StudioCanal’s Harold van Lier says the market has been “exceptional” for the company which has completed strong pre-sales on its titles – a majority of which are now English-language productions.

“We’ve been steadily growing for the past two years and it just gets better and better,” he told Screen.

With 25 territories already in place, Jean-Pierre Ameris’ romantic comedy Romantics Anonymous has been acquired by Tribeca Film for the US, it was announced Wednesday. The French hit had its international premiere at this year’s Tribeca Festival.

Other major films on StudioCanal’s slate which proved hot sellers during Cannes include the recently-announced The Last Photograph starring Christian Bale and Sean Penn which closed deals in 16 territories including Latin America (Sun), Scandinavia (MisLabel), Switzerland (Impuls) and Greece (Village Roadshow).

La Delicatesse, starring Audrey Tautou, pre-sold to 15 territories including Spain (A ContraCorriente), Greece (Village Roadshow), Scandinavia (MisLabel), Korea (Taekwang) and Russia (Carmen).

Also working well, UK production The Awakening with Rebecca Hall starring has continued pre-sales with new deals in such territories as Germany (Wild Bunch), Australia (Madman), Scandinavia (Nordisk). Blackbird, from director Stefan Ruzowitzky and starring Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde has added deals in Mexico (Gussi), Russia (Top Film), China (Bona) and Turkey (TMC).

Tomas Alfredson’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy with Colin Firth and Gary Oldman, Ben Stassen’s animated Sammy 2 and Joe Cornish’s Attack The Block are now virtually sold out worldwide with the latter closing in Germany (Wild Bunch) and Japan (CCC); Screen Gems has the US.
