Warner Bros has set up Clint Eastwood’s tale of Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle for a possible awards run after dating a limited December 25 US release.

Bradley Cooper stars in the Warner Bros Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures adaptation of Kyle’s book, American Sniper.

The decorated Iraq War veteran claimed to be the most lethal sharpshooter in US military history with 160 confirmed kills from 255 claimed kills.

He was killed at a North Texas gun range in February 2013, aged 38. War veteran Eddie Ray Routh has been charged with capital murder and awaits trial for the death of Kyle and one other man at the range.

American Sniper also stars Sienna Miller and will expand wide on January 16, 2015, bumping Man From U.N.C.L.E to August 14, 2015.

Point Break has been moved up from August 7, 2015, to July 31, 2015.
