EXCLUSIVE: The newly-revamped Bac Films has taken international rights to Audrey Fouche’s debut feature, Memories Corner.

The film, shot in Japan last year during the memorial ceremonies of the Kobe earthquake in 1995, stars Deborah François as a young French journalist who finds that 15 years later victims continue to suffer with one in particular who is hiding a unique secret.

The French-Canadian co-production from Noodles Productions and Echo Media, is produced by Jérôme Vidal and co-produced by Luc Chatelain and Stephanie Page. France 3 Cinema is also co-producing. BAC will release theatrically in France.

The film comes as Bac has restructured its sales department. Gilles Sousa now oversees sales with former Funny Balloons exec Mathieu Robinet handling sales and acquisitions.

The duo are aiming to make Bac a major player on the sales market handling a small number of films per year in order to focus their full attention.

“We have complete creative freedom for acquisitions and act as a separate entity from the video and theatrical department,” said Sousa. “We will only sell films we like and we have chosen ourselves,” Mathieu Robinet added. “Memories Corner is one of those. We found it very unique, it’s a beautiful take on the Japanese culture.”

Bac also recently announced new title Americano from director Mathieu Demy. He stars in his English-language debut along with Salma Hayek, Geraldine Chaplin, Chiara Mastroianni, Carlos Bardem and Jean-Pierre Mocky.
