French company Doc & Film International is attracting good interest for Rachid Bouchareb’s Just Like a Woman, with the latest round of sales covering Australia (Madman), Spain (Golem), Brazil (Imovision), Serbia (Megacom Film), Turkey (Bir Film) and Taiwan (Swallow Wings).

Final documents are being signed at Filmart on these and other sales, and the film is being released in Italy (Minerva Pictures), the US (Cohen Media Group) and Greece (Strada).

The French/US drama stars Sienna Miller and Golshifteh Farahani as two women traveling across the US. One wants to be a professional belly dancer; the other is running from the police.

Doc & Film’s Alice Damiani says negotiations are advanced with Japan on Caroline Champetier’s French drama Berthe Morisot, a 1865 story set in Paris in the world of art and painting, which has also been bought by Swallow Wings.

The company is screening Marion Hänsel’s light-hearted Belgium/France road movie Tenderness at Filmart. Palace in Australia bought the film after Rotterdam.

The company also has Jacques Doillon’s Berlin Panorama title Love Battles, billed as a “radical” film about love and already sold to Adopt Films for the US, and Barmak Akram’s French/Afghanistan drama Wajma, An Afghan Love Story. The Kabul-set story of a forbidden relationship and the consequences won best screenplay award in the dramatic world cinema section at Sundance.
