Fame grossed approximately $10m over the weekend for a $27.4m international running total, according to fresh data released by Lakeshore Entertainment.

The dance film remake opened in second place in France on $2.8m from 455 screens, third in Italy on $1.1m from 337, second in Belgium on $421,000 from 47, and fourth on Denmark on $187,000 from 34.

In other debuts, Fame took $131,000 from 19 in French-speaking Switzerland for second place, third in the Netherlands on $362,000 from 101, and second in Italian-speaking Switzerland on $13,000 from three.

The UK led holdovers as $1.4m in fourth place raised the running total to a strong $11.2m after three weekends. Fame ranks eighth in Australia on $4.5m, seventh in South Korea on $3.8m, and ninth in New Zealand on $678,000. South Africa has generated $551,000 after three.

Combined with the $20m North American tally the worldwide cumulative total now stands at $47.4m.
