EXCLUSIVE: UK distributor Metrodome picks up rights to Elijah Wood horror Maniac from Wild Bunch and The Shining doc from Film Sales Company.

UK distributor Metrodome has picked up rights to horror Maniac starring Elijah Wood and Directors’ Fortnight documentary Room 237.

Franck Khalfoun (P2) directs Maniac, a remake of Bill Lustig’s 1980s horror about a serial killer with a fetish for scalps. Piranha and The Hills Have Eyes team Alexander Aja and Gregory Levasseur wrote and produced.

The deal was negotiated by Metrodome’s head of acquisitions Joel Kennedy and Carole Baraton from Wild Bunch.

Directed by Rodney Ascher and produced by Tim Kirk, doc Room 237 examines the theories, hidden symbols and messages surrounding Stanley The Shining.

The film got its world-wide premiere at The Sundance Film Festival and recently played in Directors Fortnight at Cannes. The deal was negotiated by Kennedy and Film Sales Company’s president Andrew Herwitz.

Metrodome will release both this winter.
