UPDATED: Relativity Media has cemented its international ambitions with the launch of a new division that creates another sales agency in what has been a busy year for the space.

Veteran Galano will serve as president and report to Relativity CEO and founder Ryan Kavanaugh and president Tucker Tooley.

Relativity Foreign will now assume direct control of its own films and third-party product outside North America, handling international sales and managing international distribution through the company’s existing output network.

FilmNation oversaw international sales and distribution of Relativity’s single-picture titles in an exclusive multi-year deal that expired last summer.

Galano’s most recent venture Speranza13 Media will shepherd the upcoming releases Romeo And Juliet, Open Grave and Summer In February before Galano folds the company she founded last February.

“The launch of Relativity Foreign takes our model and approach to the international marketplace,” said Kavanaugh. “We are excited to grow our global presence and Camela is the perfect person to help lead our new foreign sales and distribution efforts as we continue to build our studio.”

“Relativity Foreign is a natural next step for our company and Camela’s experience in international sales, distribution and acquisitions will be invaluable as we launch this new division,” said Tooley. “We are eager to build upon the international success of our films with Relativity Foreign.”

“Relativity is an innovative leader in producing and distributing movies,” said Galano, “and I am thrilled to be joining as the president of their new foreign division. I look forward to working with Ryan, Tucker and the entire team as we bring Relativity’s and our partners’ films to audiences across the world.”

Since Relativity established its output network studio sources say its films have generated approximately $893m in box office.

Titles include Immortals, The Fighter, Mirror Mirror, Sanctum, The Forbidden Kingdom, Dear John, The Bank Job, Act Of Valor and Limitless.

Relativity’s output partners includes: Alliance Films (Canada), Momentum Pictures (UK), TriPictures (Spain), Nordisk Film (Scandinavia and Iceland), A-Film Distribution (Benelux), Entertainment in Motion (Global Airlines), Sky Land (China), Senator Entertainment (Germany), Studio Solutions Group (Taiwan), Roadshow Films (Australia), Village Roadshow Film Distributors (Greece), Golden Village (Singapore), Nu Metro (South Africa), Imagem (Latin America) and Netflix (Latin America Pay TV), Sahamongkol Film International (Thailand), MGN Films (CIS/Eastern Europe), Gulf Films (Middle East), Aqua/Pinema Group (Turkey).

Prior to launching Speranza13, Galano served as president of international film acquisitions for Warner Bros and before that she was president of international sales, marketing and distribution at New Line Cinema where she worked on the Lord Of The Rings, Austin Powers and Final Destination franchises, as well as Blade, Rush Hour, Seven and Wedding Crashers.

She also oversaw international distribution for Picturehouse and Material Entertainment based in London.

On Tuesday (18) Relativity announced the promotion of Andrew Marcus to the newly-created position of COO of RelativityREAL. The executive oversaw the output network in his previous role as Relativity Media’s president of corporate strategy and development.
