Executives at Roadside Attractions announced on Tuesday [Apr 2] that production has finished on the faith-based drama Grace Unplugged and the film will open theatrically on Oct 4.

AJ Michalka, James Denton, Kevin Pollak, Michael Welch and Shawnee Smith star in Grace Unplugged, about an aspiring teen singer who discovers the value of family and faith.

Michalka [pictured] is one half of the music duo Aly & AJ, more recently known as 78Violet. The cast of Grace Unplugged includes former American Idol contestant Pia Toscano, Christian singer Jamie-Grace and Christian songwriter and Grammy winner Chris Tomlin.

Brad J Silverman wrote and directed and Russ Rice, Larry Frenzel, Chris Zarpas and Robert Norton produced. The executive producers are Mark Burg, Larry Mestel and Dan Heffner.

Lionsgate and Roadside will show the film to Christian groups over the next seven months as part of a wide outreach effort leading up to the release.

Capitol Christian Music Group and Lifeway Christian Resources have teamed up to promote the film.

The latter’s Lifeway Christian Bookstores made the news in December 2011 when it pulled pink Bibles published by B&H Publishing Group from its outlets after learning that proceeds of the sale would go towards Planned Parenthood breast cancer initiatives. Lifeway said at the time that the programme was inconsistent with its core values.
