TWC buys JD Salinger doc

The Weinstein Company has acquired world rights and will screen the film at select festivals prior to a Sept 6 platform theatrical release.

Shane Salerno, who most recently co-wrote Savages for Oliver Stone, directed Salinger and pulls together around 150 interviews from friends, colleagues of the author of The Catcher In The Rye, who died in 2010.

Talking heads include Gore Vidal, Tom Wolfe, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Edward Norton and Danny DeVito and discuss Salinger’s influence on their life and work.

TWC COO David Glasser alongside Michal Steinberg, Mark Gooder and Jennifer Malloy closed the deal with Robert Offer and Shelby Weiser on behalf of the film-makers after viewing the film on the morning before the 85th annual Academy Awards.

PBS holds US television rights for its American Masters series.
