The deal with HanWay Films covers North America, the UK and Italy. Joachim Roenning and Espen Sandberg’s film is Norway’s official foreign language Oscar submission.

Kon-Tiki recounts the true-life adventures of Thor Heyerdahl’s world- sea voyage and received its US premiere at AFI FEST this week following the launch last August in Norway, where it has grossed more than $13.4m.

The film tells of the journey undertaken by six men from Peru to Polynesia as they retrace an ancient 4,300-mile path across the Pacific on a fragile raft. Petter Skavlan wrote the screenplay.

Jeremy Thomas produced through Recorded Picture Company with Aage Aaberge on behalf of Nordisk Film. HanWay holds international rights.

The cast includes Pål Sverre Hagen as Thor alongside Odd-Magnus Williamson, Tobias Santelmann, Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Jakob Oftebro and Gustaf Skarsgård.

Heyerdahl’s book Kon-Tiki has sold more than 70m copies worldwide and his documentary won the best documentary Oscar in 1951.

TWC COO David Glasser, president of acquisitions Mark Gooder and svp of acquisitions Negeen Yazdi brokered the deal with HanWay MD Thorsten Schumacher.
