Finecut secures Moebius pre-sales
South Korean sales company Finecut has announced a raft of pre-sales on the Kim Ki-duk title Moebius, launched at Cannes.
The film sold to Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland (MFA+ Film Distribution); Italy and Italian-speaking Switzerland (Movies Inspired); ex-USSR excluding Baltic States (Cinema Prestige); Greece and Cyprus (Ama Films), and Turkey (Bir Film).
Currently in post-production, Moebius is what Finecut anticipates to be the maverick director’s “most controversial work” in which an unfaithful husband and father cuts off his own genitals to try to heal the wounds he has inflicted on his family, only to experience a more horrific sort of destruction.
The drama stars Cho Jae-hyun, who featured in other Kim Ki-duk films such as Bad Guy and who recently starred in Jeon Kyu-hwan’s Venice entry The Weight. He is joined by Seo Youngju, who won the Best Actor Award at last year’s Tokyo International Film Festival for his performance in Juvenile Offender, and Lee Eunwoo from The Gift Of God.
Finecut sealed further deals on crime thriller New World to Japan (Aya Pro), Latin America (Borsalino) and Iran (IRIB). The local hit previously sold to North America, France, Germany and Taiwan.
Hong Sang-soo’s Berlin competitor Nobody’s Daughter Haewon also added deals to Japan (Bitters End) and the UK and Ireland (Studiocanal) on top of previous deals for France and Brazil.
Kim Ki-duk’s Venice Golden Lion winner Pieta also sold to Australia and New Zealand (Madman) as well as the UK and Ireland (Studiocanal).
