Paul Walker, star of the Fast And The Furious franchise, died on Saturday (November 30) following a car accident. He was 40.

According to reports the incident occurred at around 3.30pm local time in Santa Clarita north of Los Angeles as the actor was returning from a car show in support of a Philippines typhoon relief event in association with his charity Reach Out Worldwide.

A red Porsche containing Walker and another person reportedly struck a post and bust into flames. The occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement Universal Pictures, the studio behind the Fast And Furious series, said: “All of us at Universal are heartbroken. 

“Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the Fast And Furious films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul’s family.”

Walker was shooting Fast And Furious 7, set for release on July 11 2014. His upcoming films include Hours and Brick Mansions.

He is survived by his 15-year-old daughter Meadow Walker.
