Italian director Roberto Faenza has started principal photography for his English-language feature One Day This Pain Will Be Useful To You, adapted from the Peter Cameron novel.

The production boasts a cast of top US and UK talent including Oscar winners Marcia Gay Harden and Ellen Burstyn along side actor Toby Regbo (to be seen in upcoming Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows II) who plays a high school graduate and black sheep of his upper crust New York City family who is accused of sexual harassment while working at his mother’s art gallery.

Peter Gallagher (American Beauty), Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood), Lucy Liu and Stephen Lang are also in the cast.

Elda Ferri of Jean Vigo Italia (Life Is Beautiful) is co producing with US producers Allen Bain for the 7th Floor and John Heyman for the World Film Group in collaboration with Rai Cinema. Ferri has also produced previous Faenza films like the costume drama I Vicere and The Days Of Abandonment (I Giorni Dell’Abbandono) and produced Benigni’s The Tiger and the Snow among other titles.

The technical cast includes three-time Oscar-winning Italian costume designer Milena Canonero who is executive producer on the project, and Donna Zakowska (Kate & Leopold) is the film’s costume designer.

Director of photography is Maurizio Calvesi who recently worked on Ferzan Ozpetek’s Loose Cannons(Mine Vaganti), screenplay is by Tommaso Ortino (The Good Guy) and Massimo Fiocchi.

The film will be entirely shot in New York from Aug 18 to Oct 4 and will see release in Italy via 01 Distribution in 2011.
