Fox and DreamWorks are to reunite following a rewarding collaboration on Lincoln.

Fox has come on to co-finance an untitled Cold War thriller that will see Steven Spielberg direct Tom Hanks.

Fox International will distribute outside North America, where Disney will release the film on behalf of DreamWorks.

The thriller marks Spielberg’s next directing assignment and production is earmarked for a September start.

As reported earlier this week, Disney will release in the US on December 16 2015.

The 1960s-set true story is based on the Coen Brothers’ screenplay from Matt Charman’s original script about a CIA operative caught behind the Iron Curtain after he is sent to negotiate the release of a U2 pilot.

Lincoln opened in November 2012 and went on to gross $275m worldwide, of which $93m came from international markets.
