Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (SKE) has acquired rights to the non-fiction book and has set Jennifer Kent to direct following wide acclaim for her Australian horror hit The Babadook.

Alice + Freda Forever

Kent has adapted the screenplay to Alice + Freda Forever based on Alexis Coe’s book about a romance between two young girls in 1892 Tennessee that sparked a murder that gripped the nation.

SKE will fully finance and co-produce with Berlanti Productions, with Kimmel set to produce with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

SKE president of production Carla Hacken will serve as executive producer.
