The filmmaker’s company Bazelevs has acquired Michael Mitnick’s Black List script about the public battle between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse for control of the early power industry.

Bazelevs’ president of development Michele Wolkoff will oversee The Current War and creative executive Alan Khamoui brought it into the company. Bazelevs’ independent development fund is funding development costs.

Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch will serve as executive producers through Zaillian’s Film Rites.

Mitnick latest play Ed, Downloaded will receive its world premiere at the Denver Center in 2013. His previous play Sex Lives Of Our Parents was presented by Second Stage Theatre in NYC and he is currently writing the libretto for the Broadway-bound stage musical adaptation of AnimalHouse.

Both Bekmambetov and Mitnick are represented by WME and the latter is also handled by Jeff Silver of Fourth Floor Productions.

Bekmambetov directed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter which Fox will open in the US on Jun 22.
