Northern Film & Media confirms new funding, strikes collaboration with BALTIC

Northern Film & Media has struck up a partnership with the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, to develop film, TV and digital propositions, as well as securing new funding for its production services.

Northern Film & Media has confirmed new funding from the North East’s local authorities which it hopes will future-proof its production support to companies filming in the region.

Recent films to have benefited from NFM’s production service, which includes support with locations, crews and facilities, include The Railway Man, Song for Marion, The Liability and The Man Inside.

In addition, NFM has signed a strategic partnership with the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead to develop film, TV and digital media propositions.

The collaboration is charged with creating value from the art gallery’s archive, exhibitions and initiatives. As part of the relationship, NFM will move its premises to a new office at BALTIC on Gateshead’s Quayside.

NFM will also be launching a new scheme, Digital Bridge, this summer. Funded by Creative England, it will aim to create a forum for leading filmmakers and digital talent to strike new creative collaborations and exchange expertise.

Tom Harvey, chief executive of Northern Film & Media, said: “The record-breaking attendance figures for last year’s Turner Prize at BALTIC demonstrates the appetite for culture in the North East and we are excited about the prospect of developing a collaborative strategic alliance with the gallery.

“Continued support from local authorities, Arts Council England and Creative England is an important part of the new business model as we make the transition to an agile, hybrid public-private venture. The collaborations demonstrate the commitment from regional stakeholders to boosting the North East’s creative credentials and we are confident that we will be able to add further public and private revenue streams to the business in due course.”
