Urban closes Berlin slate deals

Paris and New York-based Urban Distribution International has closed multiple deals on its Berlin slate.

Midway through the market, UDI Head of Sales Eric Schnedecker confirmed that Marjane Satrapi’s freewheeling road movie Gang Of The Jotas has gone to the UK (Independent).

Pierre-Yves Borgeaud’s Gilberto Gil doc Viramundo has sold to the USA (Cinema Guild), Latin America (HBO), Italy (Nomad), Poland (Gutek), Benelux (Brunbro), UK and Ireland (Soda Pictures), Portugal (Alambique) and Lithuania (Kaunas).

Meanwhile, portmanteau film Centro Historica, featuring contributions by art house legends Manoel de Oliveira, Aki Kaurismaki, Victor Erice and Pedro Costa, has gone to the US (Cinema Guild.)

Cinema Guild has also taken Argentine auteur Paola Hernandez’s Un Amor for the US.

Urban’s forthcoming titles include 3 x 3D, a new feature pooling the talents of Jean-Luc Godard, Peter Greenaway and Edgar Pera and which explores 3D and its evolution in the world of cinema.

UDI is also pre-selling Diary Of A Young Boy, the latest feature from Taiwanese master Tsai Ming-Liang. The film is the story of a young unemployed father and his two kids who fantasize about an alternative life as they drift through Tapei, struggling desperately to stay afloat.
