Brazil's Total Entertainment and Mexico's Titan Prods, which signed a co-production pact in September, are poised to make a Brazilian version of the highest grossing Mexican film of all time, Sex, Shame And Tears (Sexo, Pudor Y Lagrimas) . The battle-of-the-sexes comedy grossed $12.4m in Mexico. Fox Film Brazil will distribute the $1.5m remake in Brazil.

Both companies have ties to 20th Century Fox in their respective countries. Total Filmes, founded in 1998, has a distribution deal with Fox which includes Mara Mourao's Avassaladoras, Luis Carlos Lacerda's Viva Zapato! and Ricardo Bravo's Insensatez, all three in various stages of production. Fox released Sex, Shame And Tears and also will distribute Titan's next film Vivir Mata in January 2002.

Titan also has boarded Total's romantic comedy Avassaladoras which is currently in post production. According to Total co director Iafa Britz, the remake will not have an exclusively Brazilian cast and could include actors from Mexico and Argentina. Mourao is attached to direct the Portuguese-language version.
