Shooting begins on August 22 on rock and roll film Powder, starring Liam Boyle (Awaydays) and Alfie Allen (Flashbacks Of A Fool).

Based on the novel by Kevin Sampson about the sex, drugs and debauchery of the music industry, it is the second film to come out of UK production company Red Union Films, following Awaydays, which was released in the UK earlier this year. David Hughes, who produced Awaydays, is producing. Sampson has written the screenplay.

The $5.7m (£3.5m) film, entirely funded by the UK government’s Enterprise Investment scheme, will be the directorial debut of Mark Elliott. Ralf Little (24 Hour Party People) and Stephen Martin Walters (Revolver) will also star.

Shooting will begin at the V Festival this weekend, before moving on to Liverpool, London, Ibiza and Spain, where filming will wrap on October 10.
