As the market winds down, StudioCanal executive vice president Harold van Lier told ScreenDaily that the company has had the best Cannes in its history.

Leading the charge for StudioCanal is Around The World In 50 Years, a 3D animated title from Belgian director Ben Stassen, which has accounted for half of StudioCanal’s Cannes business.

On Tuesday, a bidding war was being waged in Spain over the film while further deals had closed in Scandinavia (Svensk) and Turkey (TMC). Discussions with Australia have reached the advanced stage.

Meanwhile, The Red Riding Trilogy, based on David Pearce’s cult noir novels, has sold to Alliance in Canada. StudioCanal is also in advanced talks with Spain on Daniel Stammn’s Eli Roth-produced Cotton.

Van Lier said that StudioCanal’s strong Cannes follows its decision 18 months ago to invest in big international productions.
