The $5m (€4.5m) film stars Trine Dyrholm (In A Better World, A Royal Affair), Ulrich Thomsen (In A Better World), Fares Fares (Zero Dark Thirty) and Lars Ranthe (The Hunt) among the ensemble cast.

Written by Vinterberg and Tobias Lindholm - who also co-wrote Vinterberg’s previous films Submarino (2010) and The Hunt (2012) - The Commune tells a story about the clash between personal desires vs. solidarity and tolerance in a commune in the 1970’s.

The film is produced by Sisse Graum Jørgensen and Morten Kaufmann for Zentropa Entertainments19 in co-operation with Toolbox Film, co-produced by Film I Väst, Zentropa International Sweden, Topkapi Films and Zentropa International Netherlands with support from Danish Film Institute, DR, Eurimages, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, The Netherlands Film Fund, Swedish Film Institute, SVT and the MEDIA programme of the European Union.

TrustNordisk handles international sales and it will be released in Denmark on Jan 14, 2016.
