Lionsgate International sold out the world in Cannes to the second episode of the smash Hunger Games series, set to commence production in September ahead of a global launch on Nov 22, 2013.

Lionsgate motion picture group co-chair Patrick Wachsberger and Lionsgate International president Helen Lee Kim negotiated the deal with Universal, which will distribute through Universal Pictures International.

“We are delighted to expand our successful international partnership with Universal to Italy on this exciting franchise,” Kim said. “We have enjoyed a productive relationship with Universal in several territories on such recent Lionsgate and Summit films such as the Step Up franchise, What to Expect When You’re Expecting and The Cabin In The Woods.

The Hunger Games has emerged as a truly global phenomenon, and we believe that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will elevate the franchise to a new level of performance at the international box office.”

The Hunger Games (pictured) has grossed $650m worldwide.

Lionsgate International also enjoyed success in Cannes with Dirty Dancing and Red 2.
