GKIDS has acquired US distribution rights to Zarafa, an official selection at this week’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

The New York-based animation distributor also picked up The Rabbi’s Cat, which won the festival’s best feature award last year.

Zarafa (pictured), directed by Remi Bezancon and Jean-Christophe Lie, premiered at this year’s Berlin festival and was a box office hit in its native France. It becomes the fifth GKIDS acquisition screening at Annency this year.

The Rabbi’s Cat, directed by Joann Sfar and Antoine Delesvaux, won France’s Cesar for best animated film in February. Sfar adapted the 3D film from his graphic novel of the same name.

Eric Beckman negotiated both deals for GKIDS. Greb Chambet negotiated the Rabbi’s Cat deal for TF1 and Saya Huddleston negotiated the Zarafa deal for Pathé International.
