  • Earned a masters degree in human resources management at Rutgers University in the US
  • Joined iQiyi’s film business department in 2019

After a brief stint in local distribution and handling Hollywood titles such as The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Luo embarked on a career in film acquisition when she joined streaming platform iQiyi. Initially focused on VoD rights for Chinese-language films, in 2024 Luo’s role expanded into securing all rights of global films for theatrical release.

While attending Cannes last year, she spotted A24’s upcoming sports drama The Smashing Machine, on which she eventually acquired all rights. She has also picked up VoD rights for Amazon MGM Studios’ Red One and Lionsgate’s upcoming third instalment in its Now You See Me franchise, Now You See Me, Now You Don’t. “Apart from big-budget and well-known productions with big names, we are keen to discover tenderly crafted but micro-budget films that might work in China,” says Luo.

Before officially taking on international titles, Luo was tasked with managing the theatrical release of Cannes 2021 jury prize winner Memoria. “It was highly rewarding to connect Chinese audiences with world-class artists, as Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s previous works had never been publicly screened in China,” says Luo. “The film has a high artistic threshold and many distribution companies told me it would be a massive challenge, but we achieved impressive box-office results. China holds the top position among all countries of release.”
