The second Malatya International Film Festival in Turkey closed Nov 24 with the Crystal Apricot award going to The Future Lasts Forever (Gelecek Uzun Surer).

Ozcan Alper’s second feature, a love story about a Turkish woman’s voyage to find her Kurdish lover, was praised for “translating the pain of the war and trauma into the language of cinema.” Alper also won for best director and Mustafa Biber won for best music.

The Best International Film was Philippe LeGuary’s The Women on the 6th Floor (Les Femmes Du 6eme Etage). LeGuary also won for best international director and Natalia Verbeke won best international actress for her role in the film.

Mar by Caner Erzincan also won several awards, including best actor for Volga Sorgu, the SIYAD jury award and a jury special award.

The festival had a theme of Migration this year. Malatya screened 120 features and shorts from 40 countries during its week-long festival.
