As the Viennale celebrates its 50th anniversary, a number of other international festivals are paying tribute to the festival.

The current Buenos Aires International Film Festival (BAFICI), which started on April 11, kicks off the tributes, followed by the Korean film festival of Jeonju (April 26 to May 4), and Portuguese IndieLisboa (late April/early May). Later in the year, tributes are planned in Marseille, Munich and New York. The programmes vary festival by festival and include films by the likes of Terayama Shuji, Wes Anderson, Nina Menkes, Ousmane Sembène, Luc Moullet, Valeska Grisebach, Ross McElwee and Agnès Varda.

“The Viennale is honored and proud about the great international acknowledgement expressed in such a multifaceted manner on the occasion of the festival’s anniversary,” says Viennale director Hans Hurch [pictured].

The Viennale itself will of course host a number of special projects in activities throughout the year. More details will be announced in the first week of May.
