French actress Isabelle Huppert is starring in Korean auteur director Hong Sang-soo’s next film. In accordance with the director’s fluid working style, the film is as yet untitled and the story is under wraps.

During a visit to Korea in May for a photo exhibition on herself and for publicity on her film Copacabana, Isabelle Huppert had mentioned she would like to work with Korean directors such as Lee Chang-dong, Hong Sang-soo, Im Sang-soo, Kim Ki-duk, Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho.

Hong, who has started shooting up to two films a year recently, is the first to take her up on the idea of starring in a Korean auteur film. The iconic actress has won multiple prizes from Cannes, Venice and Berlin for films such as The Piano Teacher and 8 Women.

This upcoming Hong Sang-soo film also features Yu Jun-sang, who starred in the director’s The Day He Arrives, which was in Cannes earlier this year. Yu also appeared in the director’s Hahaha and Like You Know It All.

Other actors in the film who are working with Hong Sang-soo again include Moon So-ri and Yoon Yeo-jung who were both in his Hahaha, Jung Yu-mi and Moon Sung-geun, who were both recently in his Oki’s Movie.

The film is currently shooting around South Korea in locations such as Bu-an in North Jeolla Province, Tae-an in South Chungcheong Province and in different locations in Gyeonggi Province.

It is due to be ready for a premiere the second half of the year.
