The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is to celebrate the career of Pedro Almodóvar with “an intimate retrospective” on Dec 13 at London’s Curzon Soho Cinema.

Hosted by Sir Christopher Frayling, the invitation-only evening will feature film excerpts, a conversation with Almodóvar and discussions with his friends, colleagues and family members, including Agustín Almodóvar, Stephen Frears, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Alberto Iglesias, Peter Morgan and Sally Potter.

Almodóvar’s Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award in 1988 and his All About My Mother won the Oscar in the category in 1999.

The Spanish film-maker won the original screenplay Oscar - and was nominated in the directing category - for Talk To Her in 2002.
