The Last First: Winter K2

Apple Original Films has acquired worldwide rights to Sundance documentary The Last First: Winter K2, about the extreme mountaineering industry and its shifting culture.

Amir Bar-Lev directed the feature, which focuses on a 2021 expedition by mountaineers John Snorri Sigurjónsson from Iceland and Pakistani father-son team Ali and Sajid Sadpara as they set out to be the first to summit K2 – the second-highest mountain in the world – in the winter when conditions are most treacherous.

The men soon find themselves sharing the ascent with influencer climbers and their film crews, commercial expedition clients, and Nepalese celebrity mountaineer Nims Purja and his team of Sherpas.

Producers are Sarah Thomson and John Battsek of Ventureland, Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens of Propagate Content, and Sean Richard of Object Studios.

Apple negotiated the deal for the Premieres selection with Cinetic on behalf of the filmmakers and did not elaborate on when the film will release and whether it will get a theatrical component or go straight to service.
