Screen International’s Arab Stars of Tomorrow 2025 were unveiled to a gathering of local and international press at the Red Sea International Film Festival’s VIP Lounge at Culture Square on December 6.

The five emerging talents – Suzannah Mirghani, Zoulikha Tahar, Josef Akiki, Karim Daoud Anaya and Lamar Faden – were introduced by Screen editor-in-chief Matt Mueller, participating in a Q&A session followed by a networking reception.

Qatar-based Sudanese filmmaker Mirghani’s debut feature Cotton Queen premiered in Venice Critics’ Week in September, while Algerian writer, director and showrunner Tahar’s short-form series El Sardines won an award at Series Mania earlier this year and was screened at Red Sea.

Saudi Arabian actress Faden makes her screen debut in her country’s Oscar submission Hijra, while Palestine’s Karim Daoud Anaya also makes his first screen appearance in the international feature entry for Palestine, as one of the leads in Annemarie Jacir’s Palestine 36.

Lebanese actor Akiki was cast by Charlie Kaufman to co-star alongside Jessie Buckley in his short film How To Shoot A Ghost, which also premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
