‘Four Minus Three’

Beta Cinema has secured key deals on Adrian Goinginger’s Four Minus Three, which won the Europa Cinemas Label Award at Berlin Film Festival in February.

The film has sold to France (Pyramide), Benelux (Arti), Canada (A-Z Films), Australia-New Zealand (Palace Films) and Taiwan (Swallow Wings). Beta is in negotiation for further territories.

Four Minus Three follows a woman working as a professional clown who, after losing her family in a car crash, struggles to maintain her belief in laughter. It placed second in the Panorama Audience Award voting on debut in Berlin; and received eight nominations today at the Austrian Film Awards: best film, director, screenplay, actress, supporting actor, casting, sound, and make-up design.

It has been on release in Austria for five weekends, having delivered the best opening weekend for an Austrian film this year, and with 70,096 admissions and €730,705 ($860,336) recorded already.

Four Minus Three is an adaptation of Barbara Pachl-Eberhart’s novel, written by Senad Halilbasic. Valerie Pachner leads the cast, alongside Robert Stadlober, Hanno Koffler and Stefanie Reinsperger.

The film is an Austria-Germany co-production, produced by 2010 Entertainment and Giganten Film in collaboration with ORF-FFA, BR, SWR and arte.

It is Austrian director Goinginger’s sixth feature, after previous titles including 2023 comedy-drama Rickerl.
