EXCLUSIVE: Doc about champion jockey to get UK-Ire cinema release later this year.

Entertainment One (eOne) has picked up the untitled AP McCoy documentary from Moneyglass Films for UK and Ireland with plans to release the film theatrically later this year.

Directed by Bafta-winner Anthony Wonke (The Tower: A Tale of Two Cities), the all-access documentary - previously known as Being AP - follows the story of 20-time champion jockey AP ‘Tony’ McCoy through his final season.

The 40 year-old has notched up more than 4,300 wins, 700 falls, 40 broken bones and a BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2010 across a near 25-year racing career.

“The opportunity to film with a sports legend such as AP McCoy while still performing at the height of his considerable powers is a unique and special one,” said producer Nick Ryle.

“To then have the access to capture the drama and emotion around AP’s final season and retirement is a rare privilege. The film will be both epic and intimate in scope and we are delighted to be working with eOne.”

The Moneyglass Films Production was made in association with Roads Entertainment and Partizan Films and in association with BBC Films, Kreo Films and with support from the Irish Film Board, Northern Ireland Screen and the British Horseracing Authority/Great British Racing.

Nick Ryle, John Woollcombe and Alan Maher serve as producers with Madeleine Sanderson, Joe Oppenheimer, Christine Langan, Simon Ford, Keith Potter, Andrew Reid, Phil Hunt and Compton Ross as executive producers.
