‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’

Everything Everywhere All At Once added another senior honour to its awards circuit haul en route to next weekend’s Oscars, taking the prize for best original screenplay at the 2023 Writers Guild Awards on Sunday night (March 5).

The win for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert caps another momentous week for A24’s metaverse adventure following triumphs at Saturday’s Spirit Awards and last weekend’s historical SAG Awards.

Original screenplay is one of 11 nominations the Everything team will be looking to convert at the 95th Academy Awards on March 12. Final voting ends on Tuesday (March 7).

Sarah Polley’s Women Talking won the adapted screenplay prize at the 75th Annual Writers Guild Awards in a timely honour before she contests the same category at the Oscars.

In the other key film category at the final US guild awards show of the season, Brett Morgen’s Moonage Daydream won for documentary screenplay. Spike Lee collected the WGA East’s Ian McLellan Hunter Award for Career Achievement.

The top television categories brought success for SeveranceThe White Lotus, and The Bear, with the Severance writers earning wins for best drama series and new series.

Sunday’s event took the usual form of concurrent Writers Guild Awards ceremonies hosted by the East and West coast chapters.
