EXCLUSIVE: With one week to go before the Cannes Marché, Film Mode Entertainment president Clay Epstein has boarded sales on superhero film Legend Of The White Dragon featuring the final performance of Power Rangers franchise alumnus Jason David Frank alongside the late Michael Madsen.
Aaron Schoenke and Sean Schoenke co-directed the action title starring Frank as Erik Reed, a former hero once celebrated as the White Dragon who has been forced into hiding after he is exposed and blamed for the destruction of part of his city. Amid rising corruption in Virtuo City, Reed must face a powerful foe who wields the same energy that once defined him.
Schoenke co-wrote with and Alex Kellerman and features in a cast that includes Jason Faunt, Rachele Brooke Smith, Jenna Frank, Andrew Bachelor, Madsen, David Ramsey, and Mark Dacascos, as well as alumni from the Power Rangers universe.
Lead producer Chris Jay and other stakeholders leveraged a Kickstart campaign to support Legend Of The White Dragon that drew on widespread support for Frank. The film will open in the US through Well Go USA on August 28, which coincides with National Power Rangers Day.
Epstein said the film celebrates the life of Frank, adding: “The Power Rangers brand is one of the most recognised franchises in the world, with decades of success spanning television, licensing, and theatrical releases across North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia.”
Legend Of The White Dragon is a Bat In The Sun production in association with Paradox House. The film is produced by Jay, the Schoenkes, Frank, and Ben Dukes. Alex Chang and Huck Walton serve as executive producers.
Film Mode will show footage from Phoenix Raei’s horror thriller The Craving and handles worldwide sales excluding Australia and New Zealand. The contained survival horror film centres on a wildlife photographer on a remote island who becomes infected by a mysterious insect bite and races to stop an outbreak of the flesh-eating disease before it consumes him and anyone else in its path.
Raei produced with Nick Farnell, Kate Lister, Anthony J. Sharpe and Monique Fisher. The cast features Sharpe, Farnell, Lister, Daniela Farinacci, Don Bridges, Andy Doyle, Erin Kearns, and Kevin Harrington.
“The Craving delivers exactly what the international market responds to – an elevated genre concept with strong visual execution and a relentless, contained premise,” said Epstein.
