Streaming platform Filmatique has launched the second edition of its Talents online programme featuring prize winners from San Sebastian and Sarajevo.
Starting on June 2 and continuing with a new film each week for the rest of the month, the New York-based online platform will showcase a noteworthy first or second feature by an emerging global filmmaker that has not yet received a US theatrical release.
Films screen alongside shorts from directors of all experience levels, and each release will be paired with an exclusive interview with the director.
Swiss filmmaker Pierre-Francois Sauter’s second documentary Calabria kicks off the programme and screened in Locarno and MoMA’s Doc Fortnight, and won a special jury mention at Visions du Réel.
The film chronicles a journey by two mortuary workers as they travel from Switzerland to southern Italy to deliver a folk singer to his final resting place.
Dust And Ashes, the debut from South Korean director Park Hee-kwon, will screen on June 9, followed on June 16 by Bulgarian filmmaker Svetla Tsotsorkova’s second film, Sister, winner of the New Directors Competition award at San Sebastián last year.
Tapeworm, the feature debut by Canadian duo Milos Mitrovic and Fabian Velasco, screens on June 23 and was an official selection at Slamdance, Tallinn Black Nights, and Vancouver.
The programme concludes on June 30 with Dutch-Bosnian filmmaker Ena Sendijarevic’s feature debut, Take Me Somewhere Nice, winner of best film at Sarajevo and a special mention recipient at International Film Festival Rotterdam 2019.
