Franklin will work with all of film divisions within the Sony Pictures fold and his next project will be the adaptation of bestseller Heaven Is For Real.
The executive joined Columbia in 2005 from MGM and his credits include The Karate Kid, Jumping The Broom and the upcoming release Sparkle starring Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks.
Franklin will continue to work on franchise titles such as The Karate Kid, Masters Of The Universe and After Earth.
He reports to Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad.
